Bangladesh giants Bashundhara Kings conceded a 2-3 goals defeat to Oman’s Al Seeb Club in their first Group B match of the ongoing AFC Challenge League 2025-26 at the Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Stadium in Kuwait on Saturday night.
Al Seeb took the lead when their forward Nasser Alrawahi snuck behind Rimon Hossain to chest down Arshad Alalawi’s raking pass before steering past Bashundhara goalkeeper Mehdi Srabon in the 7th minute of the match.
But the Bangladeshi side ended the lead and got the reward their play deserved when substitute Saad Uddin fired a shot back into the box, which Brazilian midfielder Raphael Augusto controlled perfectly before stroking home the equaliser four minutes before half-time.
After the interval, Kings took the lead in the 53rd minute when Brazilian forward Dorielton fed winger Rakib Hossain on the right, with the winger surging in-field before firing a shot from distance that dipped under a diving Alrawahi.
The lead, however, only lasted seven minutes as Al Seeb equalised when Hassan Alajmi’s cross from the right found midfielder Zahir Alaghbari at the back post, who slammed his shot into the bottom corner.
Another Alajmi cross in the 77th minute saw Al Seeb claim the win, with substitute Ali Albusaidi having the presence of mind to steer the ball towards Almaqbali who volleyed home from the centre of the box.
In the day's other match, hosts Al-Kuwait Sports Club beat Lebanon’s Al Ansar Football Club by the same 3-2 goals margin at the same venue.
However, Al Seeb will look to add another win when they take on hosts Kuwait SC, with Mario Gomez’s Bashundhara hoping to bounce back against Al Ansar, both on Tuesday.
Earlier, Kings reached Kuwait on Tuesday to play the main stage of the ongoing third-tier continental club football competition as a lone Bangladeshi club.
They qualified for the group stage after beating Syrian club Al-Karamah SC by 1-0 goal in a West Region match in August in Qatar.
Another Bangladeshi club Dhaka Abahani Ltd lost to Kyrgyz club FC Muras United by 0-2 goals in the West Region qualifiers in Dhaka, also in August.
