While they have struggled to find their form in La Liga, Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign had been a display of resilience—until now. After overcoming giants like Manchester City, the Los Blancos finally succumbed to Bayern Munich in a high-stakes knockout clash.

The absence of injured goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois proved decisive, as Andriy Lunin struggled to provide the necessary security at the back. Despite several fightbacks, Real Madrid fell at the Allianz Arena, allowing the German side to secure their ticket to the semifinals.

Bayern won the second leg of the quarterfinal 4–3 on Wednesday night (April 15). Combined with their 2–1 victory in the first leg, the German champions advanced 6–4 on aggregate.

The match exploded into life within seconds. Capitalizing on a defensive error, Arda Güler scored for Real Madrid just 35 seconds after kickoff, setting a new record for the fastest Champions League goal in the club's history.

However, Bayern responded almost immediately. Just five minutes later, Aleksandar Pavlović leveled the score, heading home a Joshua Kimmich corner. Lunin appeared to misjudge the flight of the ball, allowing the hosts back into the tie.

Güler regained the lead for Real with a moment of magic. After Brahim Díaz was fouled outside the box, the "Turkish Messi" struck a magnificent curling free kick over the wall. Even a desperate dive from Manuel Neuer couldn't keep the ball out.

The pendulum swung again in the 38th minute when Harry Kane found space in the box via a Dayot Upamecano pass. Kane’s clinical finish marked his 50th goal of the season.

The drama continued as Vinícius Júnior hit the crossbar, only for Kylian Mbappé to equalize on aggregate (4–4) moments later, slotting home a pass from the Brazilian star.

The second half saw Bayern maintain intense pressure. Neuer pulled off a spectacular save against Mbappé, while at the other end, Trent Alexander-Arnold made a goal-saving tackle to deny Luis Díaz.

The turning point came in the 86th minute when Real Madrid was reduced to 10 men. Eduardo Camavinga, who had come on for Brahim Díaz, received two yellow cards in quick succession—the second for a foul on Kane—leaving his team vulnerable.

Bayern took full advantage of the numerical superiority. In the 89th minute, a powerful strike from Luis Díaz took a slight deflection to find the net, putting Bayern ahead on aggregate. Michael Olise then added a fourth in the final minute of stoppage time, ending the 15-time champions' hopes for good.

As the final whistle blew, the Allianz Arena erupted in celebration while the Real Madrid players were left dejected. Bayern Munich now advances to face reigning champions PSG for a spot in the final.
