Barcelona secured a hard-fought victory in their mission to defend the La Liga title, overcoming Osasuna on Saturday night.

Hansi Flick’s men clinched a 2-1 win at El Sadar, strengthening their position at the top of the table and moving within touching distance of the trophy.

Although the overall performance was far from clinical, a late surge allowed the Catalans to walk away with all three points.

Barcelona dominated possession from the opening whistle, holding the ball for nearly 70% of the first half. However, Robert Lewandowski and his teammates struggled to penetrate Osasuna’s resilient defense.

In fact, the hosts looked more dangerous on the counter-attack; Ante Budimir struck the post in the 36th minute, and shortly after, Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García was forced into a brilliant save to keep the match level.

Impactful Substitutions
Struggling to find the breakthrough in the second half, Hansi Flick made a triple tactical change in the 62nd minute, bringing on Ferran Torres, Frenkie de Jong, and Marcus Rashford in place of Dani Olmo, Gavi, and Roony Bardghji.

The changes paid dividends in the 81st minute when Rashford delivered a pinpoint cross for Robert Lewandowski, who powered home a header to give Barca the lead. It was the Polish striker’s 13th league goal of the season.

The lead was doubled just five minutes later when Ferran Torres calmly slotted home after being played through by a perfectly timed pass from Fermín López.

Despite the 2-0 cushion, a late scare followed as Osasuna’s Raúl García pulled one back in the 88th minute, setting up a tense finish. Barcelona, however, held firm to secure the 2-1 result.

The Title Race
With this win, Barcelona sits comfortably at the top of the table with 88 points from 34 matches (29 wins, 1 draw). They currently hold a 14-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid, who have 74 points with a game in hand.

Barcelona’s title could be mathematically confirmed as early as today if Real Madrid drops points against Espanyol.

Should Madrid win, Barcelona would only need a draw in next week's El Clásico to officially begin their trophy celebrations. Meanwhile, Osasuna remains in 10th place with 42 points.
