The five-time world champions restored parity at 1-1 courtesy of a Casemiro header.

In the 29th minute of the match, Sano intercepted a misplaced pass from Danilo in midfield and launched a swift counterattack. Easily leaving Casemiro behind, he unleashed a powerful strike from about 20 yards out, beating goalkeeper Alisson.

That was Japan's only shot on target, but it made all the difference in the first half.

Although Brazil led in possession and attacks during the first half, their performance lacked spark. Carlo Ancelotti’s side repeatedly found themselves under pressure due to Japan’s dominance in midfield.

Japan’s goalkeeper Suzuki comfortably dealt with both of Brazil's shots on target. On the other hand, Japan capitalized perfectly on their lone opportunity to take the lead.

Casemiro was partly to blame for Japan's opening goal, having also squandered a clear scoring chance just minutes earlier. This time, however, the veteran Brazilian midfielder made no mistake.

In the 56th minute, Casemiro took full advantage of a cross from a corner, shaking the net with a powerful header into an open post. The goalkeeper stood no chance.

With this crucial goal, Brazil leveled the score at 1-1.

Brazil could have taken the lead four minutes later, but Vinicius Junior's shot struck the post and bounced back.
