Spain's left-wing coalition Sumar has introduced a motion in the Spanish parliament calling for Morocco to be dropped as a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The proposal comes in the wake of recent border breach incidents along the Spain-Morocco frontier.

According to a report by the Spanish daily El Mundo, three members of parliament from 'Izquierda Unida' (United Left)—a party within the Sumar coalition—along with another lawmaker from the parliamentary group, signed the proposal.

The coalition has urged the Spanish government to send formal letters to FIFA, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and the Portuguese government.

The letters would demand a "special evaluation and review" of the decision to co-host the 2030 tournament with Morocco.

The motion states that hosting a global tournament requires massive public resources, state guarantees, and extensive infrastructure investment, while also directly impacting the international image of the host nations.

Consequently, every host country must demonstrate strict adherence to human rights, international law, and democratic principles, which should serve as core drivers of state authority.

A central condition of the proposal involves assessing recent events at Spain's Ceuta border and evaluating human rights accountability linked to the World Cup.

It further proposes taking additional measures should there be "serious" evidence of international commitments or human rights violations by any host country.

Previously, the Portuguese political party Livre also sent a letter to its government and football federation, demanding a reassessment of Morocco's participation alongside Spain and Portugal in hosting the 2030 World Cup.
