President Accepts Resignation of Awal Commission

President Md Sahabuddin accepted the resignation of the Election Commission (EC) led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal.

Bangabhaban Press Wing informed this on Thursday (September 5). According to the Press Wing, "The resignations of all commissioners, including the Chief Election Commissioner, have been accepted by the President."

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the resignation of the commission headed by him during an 'exchange of courtesies' with journalists at a press conference at noon.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Md Ahsan Habib Khan, Begum Rasheda Sultana, Md Alamgir and Md Anisur Rahman also resigned.

Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Md Ahsan Habib Khan and Md Alamgir were present in the press conference.

However, Begum Rasheda Sultana and Md Anisur Rahman were not present. Kazi Habibul Awal did not give any answer when the journalists asked about this.

The commission was headed by Kazi Habibul Awal. Election Commissioners were appointed on February 27, 2022. The President appointed them for five years but had to leave the office midway.
