Bangladesh Seeks Qatar's Cooperation for Rohingya Repatriation

Dr Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative of the Chief Adviser for Rohingya and priority affairs has requested Qatar's strong cooperation for the repatriation of the Rohingya to their homeland.

He made this appeal during a meeting with Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha yesterday (Monday, December 09) evening.

During the meeting, Dr Khalil highlighted the situation of the Rohingyas in Bangladesh. He informed the Qatar Foreign Minister that nearly 1.2 million Rohingyas have been residing in Bangladesh since 2007, creating social, economic, and environmental problems, and affecting national security. The High Representative emphasized that global attention and efforts are needed to resolve the Rohingya crisis.

He also mentioned that in response to the call of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the United Nations General Assembly has decided to convene an international conference on the Rohingya issue by consensus. Qatar could actively cooperate in this upcoming conference scheduled for next year.

In response, Dr Khulaifi assured broad cooperation from Qatar. He reiterated Qatar's commitment to addressing the plight of Rohingyas, emphasizing the nation's focus on their humanitarian needs and shared faith.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister inquired about the current situation in Bangladesh. Dr Khalil informed him that the situation in Bangladesh is stable.

The Foreign Minister of Qatar reaffirmed Qatar's strong support for Bangladesh's interim government and conveyed his best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus and the people of Bangladesh.

The meeting was also attended by Bangladesh's Ambassador to Qatar Md Nazrul Islam, and Deputy Mission Chief Md Waliur Rahman.
