A nationwide red alert has been issued to arrest former Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam, who escaped from Uttara East Police Station in the capital.

Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the Uttara Division, Rawnak Jahan, confirmed this information on Friday (January 10) afternoon.

She stated that following Shah Alam's escape from the police station after being arrested, the police headquarters issued a red alert and took all necessary measures. The police have also filed a case in this incident, DC Rawnak Jahan added.

Earlier on Wednesday (January 8) at midnight, Shah Alam was arrested from Kushtia Police Lines and brought to Dhaka's Uttara East Police Station, from where he cleverly escaped.

It has been reported that Shah Alam was the Officer-in-Charge of Uttara East Police Station. He was arrested in connection with a case related to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. However, despite being brought to Dhaka, he could not be detained for even a few hours.

On Thursday afternoon, preparations were underway to present him before the court when he managed to escape. Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman of the DMP Media and Public Relations Division confirmed that a sub-inspector has been arrested in connection with his escape.

Shah Alam was accused in several cases, including murder, related to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5. He was transferred from the position of Investigation Officer at Shahbagh Police Station to Officer-in-Charge of Uttara East Police Station on August 1.
