Bangladesh Boosts Efforts to Send Skilled Workers to Saudi Arabia
The Bangladesh government is actively working to meet Saudi Arabia's demand for skilled workers, said Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
Speaking at a discussion with top executives of renowned Saudi companies at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh on Tuesday (January 28), he emphasized the vast opportunities for sending skilled and semi-skilled professionals, including doctors, engineers, nurses, and technicians, to the Kingdom.
Dr. Nazrul highlighted the massive employment potential in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 megaprojects, including NEOM, Red Sea, Qiddiya, Green Riyadh, Amala, Diriyah, and Roshn, as well as upcoming global events such as the AFC Asia Cup 2027, the Winter Asian Olympics 2029, World Expo 2030, and FIFA World Cup 2034. He called for cooperation from Saudi recruitment companies in this effort.
Saudi recruiters acknowledged the presence of skilled Bangladeshi professionals but pointed out challenges such as lack of market data, networking, visa delays, language barriers, and pre-departure training. In response, Dr. Nazrul assured solutions and emphasized strengthening relations through regular job fairs, seminars, and direct engagement with company officials. He also expressed gratitude for Saudi firms' support in hiring Bangladeshi workers.
During the event, Dr. Nazrul inaugurated the embassy’s E-Demand Attestation System, enabling Saudi companies to authenticate workforce demand documents online without visiting the embassy, ensuring greater transparency and efficiency. Saudi officials praised the initiative.
Later, Dr. Nazrul met with expatriate Bangladeshis, addressing concerns over high airfare and excessive charges by recruiting agencies. He urged expatriates to stay connected with the embassy via social media and the official website for assistance.
He thanked the expatriates for their remittances and assured further government initiatives for their welfare, urging them to respect Saudi laws and avoid illegal activities.
On the issue of voting rights for expatriates, Dr. Nazrul stated that the government is evaluating feasible alternatives for implementation.
He concluded his visit by distributing awards to winners of the "Youth Festival 2025" competitions.
