BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that the decision regarding granting corridors will be made by an elected government.
He made this statement while virtually addressing a discussion meeting held on Saturday (May 17th) to mark the founding anniversary of the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM).
Tarique Rahman said that the government is prioritizing the issue of granting corridors to foreigners over finalizing the list of martyrs. He asserted that not an interim government, but an elected government will decide whether or not to grant corridors and ports.
He stated that the interim government has failed to finalize the list of martyrs and victims of the July Revolution even after 10 months. This has raised questions among the people about the government's capabilities. It is unclear whether the government is indifferent or obsessed with power.
The BNP Acting Chairman said that a kind of instability is becoming visible within and outside the government. If the government fails to understand the language and aspirations of the people, the country's political instability will continue to rise.
He further said that if this instability continues to increase, it will become difficult for this government to manage. Therefore, the interim government must be more cautious about its capabilities.
Tarique Rahman said that although the BNP has been asking the government to provide a roadmap of its action plan from the beginning, the government has not responded. Instead, it has cleverly trapped the demand for a specific election date within a novel web of reforms.
In this situation, he urged the government of Dr. Yunus to announce the date of the national elections quickly, without unnecessarily clouding the situation.
