From now on, name, mobile number and National Identity Card (NID) or birth certificate number has to provide during purchasing a railway ticket, according to sources at Bangladesh Railway.
Railway's online ticket management company CNSBD sources said if any person wants to buy a train ticket, the name, mobile number, NID number or birth registration number of the traveler will be given to railway.
As part of the pilot project, Sonar Bangla train on Dhaka-Chittagong route on Tuesday introduced the system on 15 percent tickets of the train.
However, Bangladesh Railway wants to introduce it on all the tickets of all trains within three months, they said.
Railway Ministry Secretary Mofazzal Hossain said the parliamentary standing committee on railways ministry earlier suggested to add traveler’s name, address, NID number on the ticket.
Later, the Ministry of Railways decided that the name, age, NID and mobile number, options will be inscribed on the new tickets after the sales of all existing printed tickets.
He said that such initiative is being taken to prevent the black market of ticket at Bangladesh Railway.
It is learned that name, NID and age options will be inscribed on all tickets of all trains within the next three months.
