
Dhaka University (DU) is celebrating its 106th founding anniversary today, Wednesday (July 1), with a series of day-long programs. The theme for this year's University Day is "Dhaka University in Restoring Democracy and Higher Education."
According to university authorities, teachers, students, officials, and staff from all residential halls and hostels will gather at the Smriti Chirantan monument at 9:30 AM.
Following the assembly, a colorful procession led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam will parade through the campus at 9:45 AM.
The main segment of the celebrations will commence at 10:00 AM in front of the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) with the hoisting of the national, university, and hall flags, alongside a cake-cutting ceremony.
The inaugural event will feature performances of the national anthem, the university theme song, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, and a special musical performance by international students.
Later, at 10:30 AM, a discussion meeting on the theme "Dhaka University in Restoring Democracy and Higher Education" will be held at the TSC auditorium.
Professor Emeritus Dr. A F Serajul Islam Choudhury of the Department of English will present the keynote paper at the seminar, which will be chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam.
The university administration announced that all classes will remain suspended from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM to mark the occasion. However, all previously scheduled examinations will be held as usual.
Dhaka University officially began its academic journey on July 1, 1921.
On this historic anniversary, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam extended his warm greetings to current and former students, teachers, researchers, officials, staff, guardians, and alumni, seeking everyone's cooperation to further advance the institution's education and research standards.
