Nine Workers Killed in Gujarat Soil Collapse During Digging

In Gujarat, India, nine workers, including two women, have died after being buried under soil while digging at a construction site for a stainless steel factory. One more worker was injured in the tragic incident.

According to NDTV, the incident occurred on Saturday, October 12, when a wall at the construction site collapsed during excavation near Kadi city in Mehsana district, causing several workers to be trapped under the earth.

Kadi police inspector Prahladsin Vaghela stated, "At the time of the incident, the workers were digging a 16-foot deep pit for a tank in Jaslpur village. The fire service, police, and teams of workers conducted a rescue operation for nearly two hours, after which nine bodies were recovered from the mound of soil. During this time, one person was rescued alive."

Inspector Vaghela also mentioned that the deceased were aged between 20 and 30 years and were engaged in construction work for Steelinox Stainless Private Limited.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences regarding this tragic incident. A statement from his office on the social media platform X described the event as "extremely sad."
