The conflict between Indian and Pakistani soldiers continues as gunfire erupts once more following the recent attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. There have been four separate incidents of gunfire between the two sides, with the latest clash occurring on Sunday night (April 27) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties so far.
Indian news outlet NDTV reported this development on Monday, April 28.
According to the report, for the fourth consecutive night, Pakistani soldiers violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir by opening fire without provocation. The Indian Army stated that Pakistani troops launched small arms fire from military posts located in the opposite areas of Kupwara and Poonch districts, prompting a retaliatory response from the Indian forces. This is the first instance of ceasefire violation in the Poonch sector by Pakistan.
Although Indian media outlets have consistently blamed Pakistan for the gunfire, there has been no official response or coverage of the incident from Pakistan or its media.
Further Developments
Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, India has taken several punitive measures against Pakistan, including closing the Attari border, asking Pakistani nationals to leave, cancelling all visas, and suspending the Indus Water Treaty.
In retaliation, Pakistan has responded similarly, suspending the Simla Agreement in response to India’s decision on the Indus Water Treaty. Additionally, Pakistan has imposed a ban on Indian airspace and halted all trade with India.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned India’s move, labelling the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty as a "declaration of war" and asserting that Pakistan would protect its water rights at any cost.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed outrage over the deadly attack in Pahalgam, stating that the attack had deeply affected every Indian citizen. He vowed that those responsible for the attack would face severe punishment.
