India desires a positive and constructive relationship with Bangladesh. This was stated by the spokesperson of the country's Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, during a briefing on Thursday (April 17th) local time.
Responding to a question, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said that India wants to establish a positive and constructive relationship with Bangladesh. "We are in favor of a democratic, inclusive, and prosperous Bangladesh," he added.
Answering another question regarding the cancellation of the transshipment facility provided to Bangladesh, Randhir Jaiswal said, "Last week, we issued a notification regarding the transshipment facility. We took this step due to the congestion we are witnessing at our ports and airports. And this in no way affects Bangladesh's exports to Nepal and Bhutan. Therefore, we need to expand our regional trade."
On Thursday, Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch held a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary. This visit marks an effort to normalize relations between the two countries after a long gap of 15 years. Additionally, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit Bangladesh this month.
When asked how India views this matter, the spokesperson said, "The matter is under our observation." He did not make any further comments beyond this.
