Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman on Sunday said the government is satisfied with the verdict in the child Ramisa rape and murder case 'for the time being' and hopes it will be upheld by the higher court.

He said the government was able to get the trial completed within six working days, adding that it was the first time in the country's judicial history that such a case was concluded within such a short period.

"We are satisfied with the judgment for the time being and hope that it will be upheld by the higher court as well," he said at a press briefing at the ministry this noon. Reflecting on the tragedy, he added, "We cannot bring Ramisa back; we cannot return her to her parents. But we tried to do our best."

The Law Minister further explained that a vacation from June 1 to June 15 is currently underway in the lower courts, which could have otherwise delayed the process.

"The Prime Minister had said that the government is committed to complete the trial within a month. Following that, we sent a proposal to the Chief Justice requesting that the juvenile tribunals be kept out of the ongoing vacation. The Chief Justice gave his consent and excluded the juvenile tribunals from the vacation," he added.

Thanks to this administrative coordination, the tribunal successfully framed charges in the case on June 1 and completed all legal arguments by June 4, paving the way for the historic verdict within a week of the indictment.
