The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is set to lodge an appeal this week requesting a harsher penalty for Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haque Inu, who was previously handed a 10-year prison sentence in connection with crimes against humanity perpetrated during the 2024 July-August mass uprising.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim verified the development to journalists, stating that a petition will be submitted to the Supreme Court within the current week to push for an enhancement of the punishment imposed on the former minister.
On June 30, 2026, the ICT-2 found former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu guilty and sentenced him to a decade in prison for crimes against humanity stemming from the deaths of six individuals in Kushtia amid the 2024 July-August mass uprising.
The second tribunal handed Inu a 10-year rigorous imprisonment term under charge number three, a 10-year sentence alongside a BDT one lakh fine under charge number six—with the monetary penalty designated as victim compensation—and an additional 10-year prison sentence with a BDT one lakh fine under charge number seven.
The official ruling noted, "The sentences, however, shall run concurrently, meaning the convict will have to serve a total of 10 years in prison."
