Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said, "Criticism of the government will exist, but it should be constructive. Criticism should be for the welfare of the country, not for causing harm. No one has provided the media as much freedom as the Awami League government has."
On Monday, July 10, during a programme where financial assistance handed over to the families of sick, incapacitated journalists, and deceased journalists, the Prime Minister made these remarks in her speech as the chief guest.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "When we formed the government, there were a few newspapers in the country. We made arrangements so that news could be published without any hindrance.
At first, I granted permission to three private channels, and later it is increasing. At that time, many people questioning for giving private TV channels would be appropriate or not. I was focused on creating employment opportunities of this sector. The more television channels we can provide, the more employment opportunities we can create for various types of people.
Journalists, artists, technicians, and people from various backgrounds will find work and can lead their life smoothly."
She added, "To ensure the safety of journalists, the Awami League government has initiated the journey of the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust. The government has taken initiatives so that journalists can buy flats in installments."
