SSC result: 8 students commit suicide, 3 hospitalized

SSC and equivalent exam results 2024 have been published. On Sunday (May 12), there were reports of suicide of 8 students across the country after the results were released. These incidents took place in Noakhali, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon, Mymensingh, Jhenaidah, Gopalganj, Habiganj and Magura districts. 3 more students are under treatment in the hospital in the same incident.

Details in the press release sent by the correspondent:

Noakhali: A student committed suicide after failing the SSC examination in Sadar Upazila of Noakhali. The incident took place at Ali Azam Bepari's house at around 1:30 PM on Sunday (May 12). She was buried in the family cemetery the same night.

Deceased Tanzina Akhter Jhumi (16) of Noakhali municipality, daughter of Abdul Karim. She appeared in the SSC examination from the local Kalitara Muslim Girls Academy.

Fakhruddin Mahmud, Ward No. 9 Councilor of Noakhali Municipality, said that the result of SSC examination of Tanjina was published around 11 o'clock on Sunday. As Tanzina was unsuccessful in mathematics, she committed suicide by hanging herself. At that time her mother was busy working in the kitchen. Later, when she came and saw her girl's hanging body, she screamed and the neighbours came forward.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sudharam Police Station Mir Jahedul Haque Rony confirmed the matter and said that the police were sent to the spot after receiving information. The body was handed over to the family as there was no complaint.

Nilphamari: The hanging body of an SSC candidate named Rafsan Jani Emil (16) was recovered from Syedpur in Nilphamari. The incident took place at Bangalipur area of the upazila on Sunday (May 12) afternoon.

Rafsan is the son of Abdur Rahim of the same area.

According to the police and family, Rafsan participated in the SSC examination from the local Lions School and College this year. He expected to get GPA-5 in the exam. But he achieved 4.89 points. At one point he entered the house and hanged himself.

Syedpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam said that legal proceedings are under process in this incident.

Thakurgaon: A school girl named Mitu (15) committed suicide by hanging herself after failing the SSC examination in Haripur of Thakurgaon. She committed suicide by hanging herself at her home on Sunday (May 12). She is the daughter of Musa Ali of Kamarpukur village of the upazila and a student of Kamarpukur Model High School.

Mitu's father Musa said that Mitu is their second child among 3 boys and girls. She committed suicide after the results were published.

The OC of Haripur police station is investigating. Shariful Islam said that the police were sent to the spot after receiving the information.

Jhenaidah: A girl named Nupur Akhtar (16) committed suicide after failing the SSC examination in former Binni village of Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah.

She is the daughter of Asadul Islam of that village. This time she gave SSC exam from Durlabhpur Secondary School of Harinakundu Upazila.

Harinakundu Police Station OC Ziaur Rahman said, Nupur became depressed after getting the news of failure on Sunday. Later, she entered the house without the family's presence and committed suicide by twisting a veil with a fan and hanging herself.

Altaf Hossain, head teacher of Durlabhpur Secondary School, said, "The girl was of calm nature. The teachers and students are shocked to hear the news of her suicide.

OC Ziaur said, police have been sent to the spot after receiving information. A case of wrongful death has been registered in this regard.

Mymensingh: A student named Shoheda Akhter (17) committed suicide after failing the SSC examination in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh. This incident has created an uproar among her classmates and family members.

This shocking incident took place in Batihala village of Porakandulia union of the upazila on Sunday (May 12) afternoon.

Shoheda Akhter is the daughter of Chamed Ali of Batihala village. She was a 2024 SSC candidate of Batihala High School.

Batihala High School head teacher Alkash Mia said, the incident is sad.

Deceased Shoheda Akhter committed suicide after failing the exam in a subject for the second time.

Rubel Mia, Inspector (Investigation) of Dhobaura Police Station said, "Shoheda Akhter, a student, came to know that she failed in the SSC exam. She was unable to accept the results, she committed suicide by hanging herself in her house. Earlier, she appeared for the SSC examination last year and failed in one subject. Then again failed in the re-examination.

The police officer also said that a wrongful death case is being filed at the police station in this incident.

Gopalganj: A student named Prince Hasan Mahati committed suicide after failing in one subject in the SSC examination. On Sunday (May 12), after the examination results were announced, he committed suicide by twisting a veil with a fan at his sister's rented house in Mohammad Para in Gopalganj city.

Prince is the son of Sharif Mohsin Ali Beltu of Meri Gopinathpur village of Sadar upazila. He appeared in the SSC examination this year from the science department of Meri Gopinathpur Khondokar Shams Uddin Smriti high School.

SI Biplab Kumar Das of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station said that Prince Hasan Mahati came to visit his sister's house in Mohammad Para of Gopalganj after completing the SSC examination.

The results of the SSC exam were released around 11 am on Sunday. As he was unsuccessful in mathematics, at around 11:30 am, he closed the door and window in a room of his sister's rented house on the 5th floor and hanging himself with the ceiling fan.

He also said that the police went to the spot at noon and broke the door and recovered the hanging body. Following the request of the family, the body was handed over to the relatives without post-mortem.

Habiganj: A girl committed suicide by consuming poison after failing SSC exams in Habiganj. For the same reason, two more adolescents are admitted to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital after consuming poison.

Bivarabi Das, doctor of Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital said that after the announcement of SSC and equivalent exam results on Sunday, family members brought three teenagers to the hospital due to poisoning.

Among them, a girl named Maisha Akhter (17) has been declared dead immediately. And two other teenagers have been admitted to the hospital. They are under treatment.

Maisha Akhter is the daughter of Majid Mia of Adampur village of Austagram police station of Kishoreganj district. Family members said that they are student of local Dewan Ali High School. They failed in two subjects.

Another juvenile named Shuvo remain under treatment at the hospital. He is a resident of Pail village of Habiganj Sadar Upazila. He appeared in the SSC examination from a local high school and failed in one subject.

On the other hand, Mehedi Hasan, a teenager from Mohabbatpur village in Bahubal upazila, took part in the Dakhil examination from a local madrasa. He failed in a subject and tried to commit suicide by drinking poison.

Ajay Chandra Dev, OC of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station said, I have come to know about the death of a girl in the hospital after drinking poison. If there is no complaint from the family, the body will be handed over following due legal process.

Magura: A student named Katha Saha (16) committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor after failing in the SSC examination. On Sunday (May 12) noon, she jumped from the fourth-floor roof of a relative's residence named Rimpi Saha in the town of Magura district. She was rescued and admitted to the Magura Sadar Hospital and later to the Faridpur Medical Hospital. She died around 4 pm on Sunday while under treatment.

Katha Saha is the daughter of Rajesh Saha of Binodpur village in Mohammadpur, Magura. She appeared in the SSC examination this year from Binodpur Girls' School in Mohammadpur, Magura from the science department. After publishing the results, she has failed in mathematics.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Borhan Ul Islam said that Katha Saha, daughter of Rajesh Saha of Binodpur village of the upazila, committed suicide by jumping from the roof after failing in one subject in SSC.
