People who have to pay 30% income tax
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali proposed that the marginal tax rate for the highest income slab would be 30%.
In the new budget of fiscal year 2024-25, it has been proposed that income upto Tk 3.5 lakh will be tax free. Tk 3.5 lakh plus to 4.5 lakh, 5% tax will be added. Tk 4.5 lakh plus to 8.5 lakh, tax will be 10%. Tk 8.5 lakh plus to 13.5 lakh, tax will be 15%. Tk 13.5 lakh plus to 18.5 lakh, tax will be 20%. Tk 18.5 lakh plus to 38.5 lakh, tax will be 25%. Tk 38.5 lakh plus, tax will be 30%.
It is clear that no tax to be paid by a person who makes under Tk 3,50,000 in a year. But if a person makes Tk 38.5 lakh plus a year, he have to pay 30% tax over his income.

Earthquake jolts Dhaka, different parts of country
A mild magnitude earthquake was felt in different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka. Initially, the magnitude of the earthquake and its epicenter were not known.
The earthquake was felt at 7:17 pm on Wednesday (May 29).
A moderate earthquake has shaken different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka. The epicenter of the earthquake was the northwestern part of Myanmar. Its magnitude was 5.4 on the Richter scale.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake hit 31 kilometers east-southeast of Myanmar's Mawlaik district at 7:14 pm on Wednesday (May 29). It's center was 110 kilometers deep in the earth's surface.
Many residents of the capital posted on social media, including Facebook, about feeling the earthquake. No casualties have been reported in the earthquake so far.
Apart from Dhaka, the earthquake felt in different parts of the country including Chattogram, Sylhet.
Results of the 3rd phrase upazila polls
The third phase of the sixth upazila parishad polls held in 87 upazilas across the country on Wednesday (May 29).
The voting began at 8:00 am and ended at 4:00 pm.
During the voting, there were various irregularities including fake votes, expulsion of agents, but no major untoward incident was reported.
The list of elected chairmans in 87 upazilas:
Bogura: District Jubo League President Shubhashish Poddar Liton has been elected chairman of Bogra sadar upazila parishad.
Rangamati: The third phase of Langadu and Naniarchar upazila parishad elections in Rangamati was held. Langadu upazila Awami League general secretary, Babul Das Babu elected as chairman.
On the other hand, Amar Jiban Chakma elected unofficially after receiving 6,159 votes in all 14 polling centers in Naniarchar.
Satkhira: Mashiur Rahman Babu and Aminul Islam Laltu have been elected unofficially as chairman of Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazila parishads. The results were announced unofficially from their respective upazila returning offices.
Moulvibazar: Imtiaz Ahmed Bulbul unofficially elected from Kamalganj upazila parishad election securing 46,640 votes.
On the other hand, Bhanulal Roy unofficially won the post of upazila chairman in 87 centers of Sreemangal upazila receiving 42 thousand 669 votes.
Narsingdi: Ferdousi Islam unofficially elected from Shibpur upazila securing 47,786 votes.

Recovered pieces of flesh belonged to MP Anar: DB chief
The flesh recovered from the septic tank in Kolkata are believed to the flesh of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, According to Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police Chief Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Harun Or Rashid.
He said that the investigation of Anar's murder has progressed a lot due to the recovery of evidence and the collection of surrounding digital data. It can be confirmed only after getting the forensic report.
He said these things while talking to reporters at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after landing in Bangladesh from Kolkata after the investigation into the murder of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anna on Thursday (May 30) afternoon.
Harun Or Rashid said that Anwarul Azim Anar was killed on the ground of Kolkata on May 13. A case has been filed in Bangladesh in this incident. A murder case has also been registered in Kolkata in the same incident. We have already arrested three murderers. Among them, the main killer is Amanullah alias Shimul Bhuiyan. RAB ASP Uttam Kumar banned from leaving Bangladesh
RAB Additional Superintendent of Police Uttam Kumar Biswas has been banned from leaving the country by the court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain issued the order on Thursday (May 30).
It is learned that investigating officer and ACC Assistant Director Ruhul Haque applied for ban on emigration on behalf of the agency during the preliminary investigation of the case. After the hearing, the court ordered Uttam Kumar Biswas to be banned from leaving the country.
The petition states that a report has been issued in the name of Uttam Kumar Biswas and his wife, and an investigation has been initiated against Uttam Kumar regarding the allegations of acquiring assets beyond known income through various irregularities and corruption, which is still ongoing. Immediately after receiving the ACC notice, he withdrawing all money from numerous accounts and closing the accounts, which is suspicious. He has not cooperated in any way since the beginning of the investigation, but has been wasting time and trying to disrupt the investigation by providing false and misleading information at various times.
It also mentioned that during the investigation, Uttam Kumar planned to close all accounts and leave the country. There are fears that the search work may be hampered if he flees abroad. For this, he needs to be banned from traveling abroad.
On this day, ACC lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir asked the court whether Uttam Kumar is still working or not. Later the court was informed that Uttam Kumar was still working. Then the court ordered him not to leave the country.
Anar murder: Shimul, Tanvir, Shilasti placed on 5-day remand
The three assused naned Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Amanullah Sayeed, Tanvir Bhuiyan and Shilasti Rahman on a five-day remand each in a case filed over the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar.
They were produced before the court on Friday (May 31) after an eight-day remand.
Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant commissioner of Wari Zone of Detective Branch (DB) of police, also the investigation officer of the case, pleaded for an eight-day remand for the sake of investigation. After the hearing, the Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Shanto Islam Mallick passed the order.
On May 12, MP Anwarul Azim went to India from Kaliganj in Jhenaidah through the Gede border in Chuadanga's Darshana for treatment. He went to the house of a friend named Gopal Biswas at Mandalpara Lane in West Bengal. The next day, he left the house. Since then, Anwarul Azim has mysteriously disappeared.
Five days after leaving home, on May 18, Gopal Biswas filed a GD with Baranagar Police Station about the disappearance of Anwarul Azim. On May 13, he was murdered at Sanjeeva Residential Building in Kolkata's New Town. The body parts were then put in trolley bags and dumped in water bodies in different parts of Kolkata. Police have so far arrested Amanullah Sayeed alias Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiyan, 56, Tanvir Bhuiyan, 30, and Shilasti Rahman, 22. The CID of West Bengal Police has arrested a butcher named Jihad Howlader suspected over the murder.
Bangladesh stands top of human trafficking in Europe by sea

60pc buildings of Dhaka to collapse if 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurs on Madhupur fault
A study conducted under the Urban Resilience Project of RAJUK revealed that if an earthquake of 6.9 magnitude occurs on Madhupur fault in Tangail, 13 lakh 91 thousand 685 to 8 lakh 64 thousand 619 buildings in Dhaka will collapse which is almost 60pc of Dhaka's buildings.
Rajuk chief engineer and project director Abdul Latif Helali revealed this information at a seminar on earthquake risk management organized by RAJUK on Saturday (June 1).
Abdul Latif Helali said that if an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 occurs in Tangail's Madhupur fault, 8 lakh 64 thousand 619 to 13 lakh 91 thousand 685 buildings in Dhaka will collapse, which is 40.28 to 64.83 percent of the total buildings. Apart from this, if an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 occurs in Sylhet Lineament, then 40 thousand 935 to 3 lakh 14 thousand 742 buildings of Dhaka will be damaged; Which is 1.91 to 14.66 percent of the total number of buildings.
According to the report, if earthquake occurs in the in the morning, then 2 lakh 10 thousand to 3 lakh 10 thousand people will be killed in Dhaka. 270,000 to 400,000 people will be killed in the afternoon, and 320,000 to 500,000 people will be killed at night.
