India's Positive Relations with Bangladesh Will Continue, Hopes Jaishankar

Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has expressed optimism that India’s "positive and constructive" relationship with Bangladesh will continue. Speaking at an event titled "India, Asia, and the World," organized by the Asia Society and Asia Society Policy Institute in New York on Tuesday (September 25), Jaishankar shared his views.
He asserted that India does not attempt to control the political affairs of its neighboring states. "I would ask everyone not to jump to conclusions regarding our relationships. It’s not as though India is trying to control the politics of all its neighboring countries. It doesn’t work that way, nor does anyone succeed by doing so," said Jaishankar.
India has unconditionally supported both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Responding to comments that recent changes in government in these countries have created a challenging environment for New Delhi, the Indian foreign minister made this statement.
Jaishankar added, "At the end of the day, every neighbor has its own identity. We don’t tell them that their trajectory should align with our preferences. That’s not our intent. In today’s world, this is the reality. Every country formulates its policies according to its own choices, and others must navigate that accordingly."
The conversation also touched on recent developments in Bangladesh. Referring to Bangladesh, Jaishankar said, "The case of Bangladesh is somewhat different from others. Over the past decade, we have worked on several projects that are mutually beneficial to both countries. Overall, economic activities have increased, and the logistics sector in the region has improved."
Jaishankar made these remarks following his first meeting with Bangladesh's interim government foreign advisor, Tawhid Hossain. Diplomatic sources from both countries described the meeting as effective, positive, and constructive.
Jaishankar emphasized, "Every country operates based on its own perspectives. In foreign policy, you must respond to situations with understanding. I am confident that in the end, we will realize that as neighbors, we are interdependent. One country can benefit the other, and that is where mutual interests lie. Reality dictates the nature of relationships, as history teaches us."

Meeting of Bangladeshi students about admitted to Russian Universities

The Director of the Russian House in Dhaka P. Dvoychenkov wished the students success in their education in Russia, hoping they would return to Bangladesh as professionals in their fields and play a special role in developing their country.
Russia is a recognized global leader in training mathematicians, physicists, chemists, geologists, engineers, programmers, doctors, and specialists in other natural science fields. The Russian higher education system comprises over 750 universities and more than 650 specialties across various educational levels.
Modern Russia is a blend of Asia and Europe, where everyone can find a piece of home. Throughout its history, Russia has bordered many different states and peoples, absorbing their traditions and values, which has led to a rich ethnic and cultural diversity. Because of this diversity, applicants from any country can feel comfortable in their new country and adapt easily to student life.
At the meeting, students who received visas from the Russian government for their studies expressed their gratitude in an emotional speech. They thanked the Director of the Russian House in Dhaka and noted that they would return to their country after completing their studies in Russia and participating in its development.
In the second part of the event, students were shown the film 'Freedom of Conscience and Religion,' which explores the diversity of religious confessions and the necessity of peaceful coexistence among their representatives, along with several other films.
The event was held in a very warm and friendly atmosphere.
Lutfar Rahman Badal gets permanent bail
Former chairman of IFIC Bank and businessman Lutfar Rahman Badal has been granted for permanent bail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
He appeared in the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court on Thursday (August 29) and applied for bail in two ACC cases. After the hearing, the court granted him permanent bail.
Lutfar Rahman Badal's lawyer Masud Parvez confirmed this information. According to Badal, 'Due to political revenge, a harassing false case was filed against me. I was out of the country because of a bad internal situation. I have come to court respecting the law. I believe that I will get justice from the court.
He also expects justice from the court in other false and harassing cases filed against him.
DMP banned public gatherings several places in Dhaka
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a public notice banning all kinds of meetings, gatherings, marches, processions, demonstrations, etc in the capital on the roads adjacent to the Chief Justice's official residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, main gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court and Matsya Bhaban.
DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan informed this in a public notice on Thursday (August 29).
It is stated in the public notice that because of the recent situation, the Hon'ble Chief Justice of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance will proceed from 30th August 2024 (Friday) until further orders.
All kinds of meetings, gatherings, processions, processions, demonstrations, etc are prohibited on the roads adjacent to the government residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, main gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, and Matsya Bhaban.
Ashulia's viral video of dead bodies piled up in a van
A video of a pile of dead bodies in a van recently went viral on social media. The gruesome video was of some people who were killed during the quota reform movement.
After the video went viral, questions arose as to where the incident took place. Later, the fact check organization Rumor Scan said that the incident of pile of dead bodies in the van was in the area adjacent to Ashulia police station. However, their identity is not yet known.
The company confirmed the matter on Friday (August 29) night.
In the viral video, several bodies are seen piled up in a van. Besides, another body is being transferred by the police to the van. The bodies were later covered with a poster. At this time, some other policemen are also seen walking around. Although many have questioned whether those who were wearing police jackets were actually police.
According to Rumor Scan, the much-discussed video of the pile of dead bodies happened in the area adjacent to Ashulia police station. This incident happened on the afternoon of August 5. Besides, two people living around the scene claimed that the poster seen on the wall of the video is Abul Hossain Bhuiyan, candidate for ward number 7 of Dhamsona Union of Ashulia.
It is known that this poster on the wall is not available now. Immediately after August 5, all the walls were repainted.

GFI reports / 80,000 crores smuggled from Bangladesh every year
Global Financial Integrity (GFI), a Washington-based financial sector research organization, said that an average of 7.53 billion 37 million dollars or Tk 80,000 crores have been smuggled abroad from Bangladesh every year.
The organization says, 'Every year, an average of 80 thousand crore has been smuggled from this small third world country! A large part of which is smuggled in the guise of international trade.'
Economists say that the main challenge now is to recover the laundered money anyway. They also said that for the past few years, the economy of the country has been suffering from various factors including dollar crisis, fragile economy, inflation, one of the reasons of which is money laundering. Lakhs of crores have been smuggled to different countries of the world in various ways including global trade manipulation, hundi, smuggling.
According to the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), in the last one and a half years, more than 100 thousand crores have been smuggled to different countries of the world through only 24 loan scams embezzled from 19 domestic banks. Not only individual initiatives, several financial institutions and public, private banks are also indirectly involved in the money laundering process.
Several years ago, Bangladesh signed several agreements with many countries to recover the money smuggled. Economists say that the current government can continue those agreements and joint ventures with related countries.
Dhaka beholds 80mm rainfall in 3 hrs, most streets underwater

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus called national cricket team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto by phone to congratulate him and his team for their historic Test win against Pakistan on Tuesday (September 03).
