Veg Price Out of Reach, Fish and Meat Also
From fish-meat to vegetables, the price is not affordable. Common people are struggling to cope with the pressure of this increased price of daily commodities. Not only the lower class but also the middle class is struggling to make both ends meet.
Common people are not able to cope even by cutting expenses in various ways. Because, even though the cost of living has increased, the income has not increased.
Although the government has taken various measures to control the situation, the market is still unstable. Although the prices of some products, including eggs, have decreased slightly in the last two to three days, the overall effect has not been felt in the market.
The vendors said that the supply of vegetables is still less than the demand in the market. The country has suffered a lot of crop damage due to floods in the past few months. Because of this, the price of vegetables is not decreasing soon.
This information was gathered by visiting different raw markets of the capital and talking to the sellers on Friday (October 18).
Compared to the previous week, the prices of some vegetables have decreased, but the prices of most of the vegetables are still high in the market. Compared to last week, the price of brinjal has increased by Tk20-40 per kg and is being sold at Tk120-180. Apart from this, Tk80-100 per kg of lady's finger, pointed gourd, sponge gourd, snake gourd, and ribbed gourd; spiny gourd at Tk100-120; Bitter gourd and gourd at Tk120-140; Sweet pumpkin and local cucumber were sold at Tk 70-80 and papaya at Tk 40.
Winter vegetables like beans are being sold at Tk480 per kg, cauliflower at Tk60 to 80 each, small-size cabbage at Tk80, ripe tomatoes at Tk220 to 250 per kg, carrot at Tk180, and radish at Tk80. Lemon Hali30 to 60 Tk. Coriander leaves Tk600 per kg, raw banana is 80 taka per Hali, and pumpkin is Tk80 each. Tk60 to 70 per kg of sweet pumpkin in the market.
Like last week, all types of chicken are being sold at high prices. Broiler chicken is Tk200 to 210 per kg. Golden chicken is being sold at Tk300 per kg increasing by Tk 10. Golden chicken is selling at Tk270 per kg, country chicken at Tk520, layer red chicken at Tk330, and white layer at Tk320.
In the market, the price of cultivated barbel fish has increased from Tk350 to Tk450 per kg (depending on size), the price of salmon fish has increased from Tk380 to Tk500 per kg (depending on size), catfish from Tk800 to Tk1,000, Mrigal Tk320 to Tk400, pangas Tk200 to Tk220, shrimp from Tk700 to Tk1,400.
Eel fish Tk500 to Tk800, carp fish Tk400 to Tk500, poa fish Tk450 to Tk500, pabda Tk400 to Tk450, tilapia Tk220, koi Tk220 to Tk230, mola Tk 550, batasi tengra Tk1,300, tengra Tk 600 to 800, kachki Tk500, mixed fish Tk220, pomfret Tk1,200, baim Tk1,200 to Tk1,400, local koi Tk1,200, shoal fish Tk600 to Tk900, long-whiskered catfish Tk650 to Tk800, bele Tk800 And kaikkya is being sold at the rate of Tk600 per kg.
