15 BSMMU Employees Suspended Over Alleged Murder

Fifteen employees, including doctors, senior staff, and nurses at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), have been temporarily suspended for their alleged involvement in a murder that occurred during the public uprising last July. The incident reportedly took place near the Cabin Block area of the university during the protests.

This decision was announced on Sunday, January 5, through an office order signed by BSMMU Registrar Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam.

The suspended individuals include:

  • Dr Abu Torab Ali Mim, Medical Officer, Cardiology Department
  • Dr Riaz Siddiqui Pran, Medical Officer, Dermatology and Venereology Department
  • Nitish Roy and Md Saiful Islam, Painters, Director (Hospital) Office
  • Kazi Mehedi Hasan, MLSS
  • Shahidul Islam (Saidul), Assistant Dresser
  • Sandeep, Sweeper
  • Ujjal Molla, Office Assistant, Respiratory Medicine Department
  • Sujan Bishw Sharma, Driver, Transportation Division
  • Fakhrul Islam Jony, MLSS, OPD-1
  • Rubel Rana, Customer Care Attendant, Laboratory Service Center
  • Shabnam Noorani, Staff Nurse, Super Specialized Hospital
  • Shahadat, MLSS, Ward Master Office
  • Munna Ahmed, MLSS, Cardiology Department
  • Anwar Hossain, MLSS, Ward Master Office


According to the office order, the suspensions were based on a decision made during the 94th Syndicate Meeting held on December 12, 2024. The individuals were found to violate Sections 2(c), (g), (h), and (8) of the Efficiency and Discipline Ordinance due to their alleged involvement in the incident near the Cabin Block during the anti-discrimination protests.

During the suspension period, the affected employees will continue to receive their salaries and allowances in line with Section 14 of the Efficiency and Discipline Ordinance. Their employment will remain subject to the university's rules and regulations.

The suspension order officially came into effect on January 5, 2025.
