The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has conducted a raid at the Savana Eco Resort and Natural Park, owned by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, uncovering substantial evidence of tax evasion.
On Tuesday (January 21), a 15-member team led by Deputy Director Shah Mohammad Fazle Rahi carried out the operation at the resort located in Bairagitola village, Gopalganj Sadar Upazila.
The resort spans over 621 acres of land. During the raid, the CIC team thoroughly examined investment records, financial statements, and various other documents, including computer hard drives to gather data. Their preliminary findings revealed significant amounts of unpaid taxes.
Speaking about the operation, Deputy Director Shah Mohammad Fazle Rahi stated, "On behalf of the NBR's Central Intelligence Cell, we have conducted a thorough investigation and found concrete evidence of large-scale tax evasion at the eco-resort owned by former IGP Benazir Ahmed. We are currently collecting additional information from other offices. Once all the data is compiled, we will be able to determine the exact amount of tax evasion."
He further added, "Our next step involves reviewing all the documents and preparing a final report to submit to the tax office. Based on that report, the tax office will take necessary action against the individual."
