BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan has confirmed that former State Minister for Home Affairs, Lutfozzaman Babar, is now in much better health.

Providing an update on Friday (January 31) afternoon, Shayrul Kabir stated that Babar was en route to Saudi Arabia for Umrah when he experienced chest pain during a layover in Dubai. His flight from Dhaka landed in Dubai at approximately 10:30 pm local time on Thursday (January 30), after which he was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, his condition has since improved.

Shayrul further mentioned that Babar is scheduled to depart for Saudi Arabia from Dubai later today.

Earlier, just three days after his release from prison, Babar fell ill on January 19, experiencing chest pain and breathing difficulties. He was subsequently taken to a private hospital in Dhaka for medical attention.

It is noteworthy that on January 14, the High Court acquitted Lutfozzaman Babar of his life sentence in the highly publicized 10-truck arms smuggling case in Chattogram. The verdict was delivered by a bench comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasreen Akhter, effectively clearing Babar of all charges.

Babar had been in custody since his arrest on May 28, 2007, serving sentences in multiple cases. However, following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year amid a student-led public uprising, legal appeals in his cases were heard, resulting in a series of acquittals.
