Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said, till now no decision is taken to defer the date of declaring schedule for eleventh national parliament election.
He said this to the newsmen after holding meeting between EC and Jatiya Oikya Front on Monday regarding the upcoming election.
Helal Uddin Ahmed said, Oikya Front leaders demanded for army deployment to make the election free and fair. Along with they requested for not using EVM.
Replying to the questions of newsmen he said, we have preparation for declaring the election schedule on November 8. But decision will be taken regarding the matter in the EC meeting at 10 am on that day. The issue of November 7 dialogue may be reflected there.
Whether there was any heated word exchange or not- answering to this he said, not heated exchange of words there were loud speeches. Basically they do politics, they are used to deliver speeches loudly.
A delegation led by JSD president ASM Abdur Rab went to the Election Commission for discussion at 4 pm. The meeting lasted for more than one hour. After the meeting ASM Rad said to the newsmen, Oikya Front leaders held discussion with EC over putting back national election schedule, deploying army with magistracy power, EVM cancellation and ensuring fair environment for voting.
On behalf of Oikya Front the meeting was participated by JSD president ASM Abdur Rab, Ganashasthaya Kendra founder Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Oikya Front leaders Sultan Mohammad Mansur and Nayeem Jahangir.
Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda along with four Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Kabita Khanam, Rafiqul Islam and Brigadier General Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury (retd) were present in the meeting.
