No observer can express reaction to mass media: EC Secretary

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said, no observer can express reaction to mass media in this election. But they can submit report later.

He said, registration of the organization will be cancelled if negligence by the observers is found while performing their election duties.

His remarks came in a briefing to the representatives of observer organizations on the occasion of eleventh national parliament election at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday.

The program presided over by EC Additional Secretary Md. Mokhlesur Rahman where Joint Secretaries Khondoker Mizanur Rahman and ASM Asaduzzaman delivered speeches.

Helal Uddin Ahmed said, observers cannot perform such activities which are not mentioned in election code of conduct. While performing responsibility an observer cannot deliver any secret information.

He said, if there is any irregularity regarding voting and that comes to notice of the observers then they can inform the Election Commission. But at that time they cannot talk to the newsmen in this regard. If they have to say something, they should prepare the report and submit it and then they can talk after arranging press conference.

The EC Secretary cautioned the observers and said, observers cannot take part in live broadcasting. Besides they should not express such attitudes that resemble their biasness. Observers have to stand by beside the polling centers wearing identity cards. An observer will only can watch, observe and realize. Before submitting report they cannot deliver any comment.
