World’s most powerful women: Sheikh Hasina advances 4 notches

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has advanced four notches on the Forbes 2018 list of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.

The premier has been ranked 26th position on the list which was 30th in 2017, 36th in 2016 and 59th in 2015.

In Hasina’s profile, the magazine has cited her role in providing aid to Rohingya Muslim refugees fleeing Myanmar and now she is working on the safe repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.

“Citing Bangladesh's own state sanctioned genocide during 1971's Liberation War, Hasina is ‘proud to bear the bulk of the cost’ of the relocation of these refugees to her country,” it had added.

Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel tops the list for the eighth consecutive year, according to the list of the magazine published on Tuesday.

British Prime Minister Theresa May and IMF’s Christine Lagarde have been ranked 2nd 3rd positions in the list.

Mary Barra, General Motors CEO, is on the 4th position and Abigail Johnson, Fidelity Investments CEO, is on the 5th positions.

Among others, the world’s most powerful women include YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki (7th), Banco Santander Chair and Executive Director Ana Patricia Bot-n (8th), Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson (9th) and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty (10th).

The US first daughter Ivanka Trump has come to the 24th position in the list.
