Strict security measures have been implemented across the country to ensure safe and peaceful celebrations of the Bengali New Year or Pahela Baishakh, according to RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman.
Speaking at a security briefing on Sunday morning at Ramna Batamul, one of the central venues for Pahela Baishakh festivities, the RAB chief said that coordinated efforts have been made with various agencies to maintain law and order throughout the celebrations.
"We've taken comprehensive steps across the country. With the support of other agencies, we're hopeful the festivities will proceed smoothly," he stated.
He also noted that cyber security has been reinforced to prevent misinformation or propaganda related to the celebrations.
To address concerns of public safety, Shahidur Rahman assured that special attention has been given to prevent incidents of harassment or eve-teasing.
Regarding the recent burning of a fascist effigy at the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukola), he said authorities are investigating whether there were any security lapses. "If negligence is found, appropriate action will be taken. The incident will be thoroughly investigated, and those involved will be held accountable," he added.
