Sheikh Shariful Alam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), has publicly denied reports claiming that he has resigned from his position. Instead, he has urged authorities to avoid taking any hasty or biased decisions and called for a comprehensive investigation before any action is taken.
His statement comes after several news outlets reported that both the KUET Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor had submitted resignation letters. Clarifying the situation to the media, Prof. Shariful Alam stated, "I've seen media reports suggesting that the VC and I have been relieved of our duties, and that Professor Harun-Or-Rashid has been appointed acting VC. However, I've received no official communication, and I want to make it clear that I have not resigned nor submitted any resignation letter."
He further explained that, due to not having direct contact information for the Education Adviser, he sent a formal letter through a University Grants Commission (UGC) member. In that letter, he appealed to the adviser to refrain from making one-sided decisions and requested a fair and thorough investigation.
Prof. Alam noted that he was appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor on December 4, 2024, but claimed that since taking office, the Vice-Chancellor has excluded him from both administrative and financial activities. Moreover, a policy allowing limited administrative and financial responsibilities for the Pro-VC was repealed in KUET's 97th emergency syndicate meeting on January 11, 2025.
As a result, over the past four months, he has been denied access to administrative functions and financial approvals, rendering his role largely symbolic.
He expressed frustration in his letter, stating, "I still don't know what offense I'm accused of. I haven't been given a chance to defend myself, which is both regrettable and unjust. Taking action without proper investigation or due process could send the wrong message to the university community."
