Day and night temperatures are expected to rise slightly across the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) announced on Friday.

The forecast comes as residents in various regions grapple with increasing heat, with Dhaka recording 34.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 36.5 degrees Celsius in both Rangamati and Kumarkhali under the Khulna division.

Despite the warming trend, the BMD predicted that rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, are likely at one or two places over the Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions within the next 24 hours starting from Friday 9 am.

Isolated hailstorms may also occur in these areas. In other parts of the country, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with a temporarily partly cloudy sky.

The meteorological analysis shows that a trough of low pressure currently lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas, while a seasonal low is positioned over the South Bay.

Public life in the capital has already begun to feel the impact of the heat, with boatmen at Dhaka’s Sowarighat and other outdoor workers seen waiting for relief under the scorching sun.
