Filmmaker Tareque Masud Remembered in Satkhira
"Tareque Masud has introduced Bengali cinema to the international arena. He has taken Bengali cinema to new heights by making films like 'Matir Maina' and 'Runway' which is unimaginable. The lack of filmmakers like him still exists in the media world. This loss is not to be met." This is how writer and actor Jyoti Chattopadhyay expressed his feelings about Bangladesh's acclaimed filmmaker Tareque Masud.
He said this in a webinar titled 'Remembering Tareque Masud: Life and Cinema' organized by Mrinal Sen Film Society, an organization of young film activists in Satkhira. This webinar was organized on the occasion of the 10th death anniversary of Tareque Masud.
Jyoti Chattopadhyay said, ‘Tareque Masud could have made movies in foreign languages if he wanted. But he did not. He has taken the Bengali language to the international arena. '
He added, "Tareque Masud was not well-conditioned in the beginning. There was no money, no chance to take a shot more than two to three times. From that time onwards, the contribution of hard work and talent is more behind gaining popularity in Bengali films. Tareque Masud is a tremendous inspiration for young film-makers'
Former President of Dhaka University Film Society Ferdous Khan Nirjhar also joined the webinar. He said, ‘Tareque Masud is an example of the film arena of Bangladesh. He is not of any particular nationality. He has been able to bring politics closer to life in cinema.'
The webinar was presided over by Mrinal Sen Film Society's President Nawshin Anjum Nidhi. Kazi Jarin Tasnim Mahi read the main article. Moumita Sarkar, Vice-president of the organization delivered a welcome speech. The webinar was also attended by Siam Sarower Jamil from Hiralal Sen Film Society, Abu Nayem from Zahir Raihan Film Society, Sadiqul Islam from Islamic University Film Society, Roni Shill from Panchagarh Film Society, Shahriar Iqbal Peal from BUET, Sazidur Rahman from Satkhria College, Film Activist Tanusree Tanu and many others.
