Imran Hossain, the chairman of the controversial company Sadeeq Agro, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with a case of money laundering involving 133 crore taka.
He was arrested around noon on Monday (March 3). The CID's chief, Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Matiur Rahman Sheikh, confirmed the news to RTV.
Imran Hossain was arrested in the capital, and further details will be shared in a press conference scheduled for Tuesday (March 4).
The CID revealed that Hossain is facing charges related to the laundering of 133 crore taka.
Previously, the CID's Financial Crime Unit filed a case against Imran Hossain, Touhidul Alam Zenith, and Sadeeq Agro under the Money Laundering Prevention Act for laundering 133 crore taka.
Sadeeq Agro has been implicated in violating government regulations through smuggling, fraud, and forgery. The company illegally imported Brahma breed cattle, brought small-sized Bhutanese cattle into the country through smuggling from Bhutan and Nepal, and sold them at inflated prices in local markets by falsely advertising them as foreign and purebred animals.
Additionally, cattle and buffaloes were smuggled into Bangladesh through the border areas of Teknaf and Ukhiya in Cox's Bazar from Thailand and Myanmar and sold by Sadeeq Agro. The illegally earned money was transferred through various bank accounts linked to the accused individuals and related entities, amounting to 121 crore 32 lakh 15 thousand 144 taka.
