Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has emphasized that Bangladesh places the highest importance on China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In an interview with Chinese state media outlet CGTN, he called for increased Chinese investment and the relocation of industries to Bangladesh, stating that such cooperation would benefit Bangladesh and landlocked countries in the surrounding region.
The four-minute interview, aired on Saturday, April 5, featured Dr Yunus expressing a strong desire to strengthen and deepen ties between Bangladesh and China.
During the conversation, he proposed establishing a Chinese Cultural Center in Bangladesh to enhance cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two nations.
Highlighting Bangladesh's progress from a least developed country (LDC) to a developing nation, Dr Yunus urged for collective support in moving the country forward. "Peace is the only path forward — war is never a solution," he remarked, underlining the importance of peaceful cooperation.
He expressed optimism that his recent visit to China would further solidify the bilateral relationship and bring about meaningful collaboration.
Reflecting on 50 years of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China, Dr Yunus described the partnership as highly significant. He expressed hope that China would continue to support Bangladesh's development journey in alignment with the aspirations of its people.
Dr Yunus attended the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) 2025, held from March 26 to 29 in Hainan province, and later visited Beijing. This marks his first official trip to the Chinese capital since assuming the role of Chief Adviser in the interim government.
