Japan is set to make a substantial investment in Bangladesh’s Matarbari project, announced Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor.
Speaking at a press briefing on current affairs held at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday (June 1), he said that Japan will actively collaborate in developing the master plan for Matarbari. Of the $29 million earmarked for the project, a major share will come from Japan.
Shafiqul Alam also highlighted positive discussions with Japanese investors during the recent visit, noting that one of the key objectives—boosting investor interest in Bangladesh—has been largely achieved.
He further mentioned productive talks with JETRO, Japan's leading investment agency, which responded favorably to the prospects of investing in Bangladesh.
In addition, he noted strong potential for collaboration in the manpower sector. Japan plans to recruit 100,000 foreign workers over the next five years, and Bangladesh intends to actively engage in this opportunity.
The press secretary also stated that progress had been made toward resolving visa-related complications that often hinder travel to Japan.
Deputy Press Secretary Azad Mazumder and Assistant Press Secretary Ahmed Faez were also present at the briefing.
