Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus stated that Germany is a reliable partner in Bangladesh's development journey. He acknowledged Germany's crucial role as Bangladesh's largest commercial partner in Europe and praised its continued development cooperation.
Professor Yunus made these remarks on Wednesday (June 25) at State Guest House Jamuna, during a farewell meeting with the outgoing German Ambassador Achim Tröster. This meeting marked the final engagement of Ambassador Tröster's four-year diplomatic tenure in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the Chief Advisor extended his sincere congratulations to Ambassador Tröster for successfully completing his duties and commended his contributions to strengthening Bangladesh-Germany relations.
"We are grateful for your country's continued cooperation during critical times, especially in assisting Rohingya refugees," said Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. "Even after your departure, we wish to hear your opinions, whether positive or critical, because your experience and perspective are important to us. We consider you a true friend of Bangladesh."
Ambassador Tröster, reflecting emotionally on his time in Bangladesh, stated, "I've had many fascinating postings in my career, but Bangladesh is truly unique. The hospitality of the Bangladeshi people was unprecedented, and I leave with deep gratitude and respect."
He added, "The investment conference was a good initiative. I wish Bangladesh all the best and hope that the interim government's reform process will be successful. I also hope that a fair and impartial election will be held."
Lamia Morshed, Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs and Senior Secretary, and Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Director General of the West Europe and European Union Wing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were also present at the meeting.
