Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has stated that the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, is preparing to return to the country.
He made this announcement on Friday (June 20) afternoon while speaking to journalists after attending the Kulkhani (a post-death religious ceremony) of the late Gono Forum President Mostafa Mohsin Montu at a mosque in Katabon Dhal, Dhaka.
Amir Khosru said that the BNP, along with all the people of the country, is eagerly awaiting Tarique Rahman's return, adding that he will return home soon.
After the meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Tarique Rahman in London on June 13, renewed interest, curiosity, and discussion have begun regarding when the BNP's acting chairman will return to Bangladesh. Tarique Rahman went to London with his family for medical treatment in September 2008. From there, he has been managing the party in consultation with the BNP's standing committee.
Amir Khosru expressed hope that the Election Commission (EC) will make decisions regarding the cancellation of posters and amendments to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) after discussing with all political parties.
A high-level BNP delegation is scheduled to visit China on June 22 at the invitation of the ruling Communist Party of China. The senior BNP leader expressed hope that this visit to China will further strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
Among others who attended Mostafa Mohsin Montu's Kulkhani were Mahmudur Rahman Manna of Nagorik Oikya, Sharif Nurul Ambiya of Bangladesh JaSaD, Mujibur Rahman Monju of AB Party, Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu of Bhasani Jonoshokti Party, Mohsin Rashid of Bangladesh Muslim League, and Advocate Subrata Chowdhury and Jaglul Haider Afrik, Md. Mizanur Rahman of Gono Forum.
