Gas Explosion Severely Injures Kazi Nazrul’s Grandson
Babul Kazi, the youngest grandson of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, was injured in an explosion caused by a gas lighter at his residence in Banani, Dhaka.
On Saturday (January 18) at around 6:45 am, he was admitted in critical condition to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident physician at the institute's emergency department, stated that the explosion occurred early Saturday morning around 5 am in the bathroom of Babul Kazi's Banani home. He was brought to the burn institute with severe injuries, having suffered burns on 74% of his body, including his airways. His condition is critical, and he has been admitted to the ICU.
Kazi Nazrul Islam, born in 1899 in Churulia village of Bardhaman district, West Bengal, married Promila Devi at the age of 25 in Kolkata. They had four sons, among whom the first child, Krishna Mohammad, died at a very young age. The second child, Arindam Khaled Bulbul, passed away at the age of four. The remaining two sons, Kazi Sabyasachi and Kazi Aniruddha, also did not live long.
Babul Kazi is the youngest of three children of Kazi Sabyasachi and Uma Kazi. He is 59 years old. His two elder sisters, Khilkhil Kazi and Misti Kazi, are all Bangladeshi citizens.
