A tragic road accident occurred on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj regional road at Kalatapara in Gauripur Upazila when a sand-carrying truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw. As a result, four people, including two sisters from the same family, lost their lives. Two others were injured. The truck involved in the accident fled the scene.
The incident took place on Sunday (March 30) morning at Baisakhi Mor in the Douhakhala Union of Gauripur Upazila.
The Gauripur Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Mirza Mazharul Anwar, confirmed the details of the accident.
The deceased victims are:
- Kulsuma Khatun (95), wife of Obaidur Rahman from Durbar Char Bhanga village in Gauripur
- Dilruba Khatun (40), wife of Manik Miah
- Riti Akter (7) and Priti Akter (7), daughters of Saiful Islam from the Natok Ghorlen area of Mymensingh city
The injured are:
- Shyamoli Akter (20), wife of Nazrul Islam from Bhanganamari village in Gauripur
- Mahi (14), daughter of Manik from the same village
According to eyewitnesses, the passenger auto-rickshaw was traveling through Char Shrirampur village in Doulakhla Union. At around 6:30 am, it collided with the sand truck at Baisakhi Mor. Three people died at the scene. Locals rescued three injured individuals and rushed them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where one more person succumbed to their injuries.
