Two killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB

Two persons were killed in a gunfight in Damdamia area in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

The deceased are Sabbir Hossain, 25, son of Md Ibrahim Sheikh from Bagerhat’s Chitalmari and Hafizur Rahman, 35, son of Md Abdul Matin from Dhaka’s Savar.

Assistant Superintendent of Police and also acting company commander of Rab Teknaf office Shah Alam said that a RAB team gave a covered van a signal to stop while it was crossing the check post in the area at dead of night.

Defying signal, the car boarders opened fire on the Rab men, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.

At one stage, two of them received bullets when they were trying to flee the scene.

Later, they were taken to Teknaf Health Complex where the doctors declared them dead.

However, two others managed to flee the scene, said the Rab official, adding that 40,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, a foreign revolver, a one-shooter gun and 11 rounds of bullets were recovered from the spot.
