Mainul Ahsan Nobel, the singer accused of rape, has married the Eden Mohila College student who filed the case against him. The marriage was confirmed by Md. Jahangir Kabir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons, Dhaka Division.
He stated that the wedding took place on Thursday (June 19) at Keraniganj Central Jail under the supervision of the jail authorities.
Earlier on Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter instructed the jail authorities to arrange the kabinnama (marriage contract) for Nobel and the student.
This order was issued in response to an application from Nobel's lawyer, who is a defendant in the rape case.
The court also directed the jail authorities to finalize the marriage with the consent of both parties and inform the court. The student was present in court at the time.
Background of the Case
On May 19, a former student of Eden Mohila College filed a case against Mainul Ahsan Nobel under the rape, torture, and pornography acts.
Following the filing of the case, Nobel was arrested by the police in Demra. He was sent to jail on the same day after his bail application was rejected and has remained incarcerated since.
The complaint alleges that the victim, an Eden College student, met Nobel through social media, and they subsequently developed a romantic relationship.
On November 12 of last year, Nobel reportedly invited the victim to his home in the Demra police station area, claiming he wanted to show her his studio.
With the assistance of several other accused individuals, Nobel allegedly detained the student and, around 8 PM, confiscated her mobile phone.
When the plaintiff asked for her phone back to speak with her family, Nobel allegedly broke her BDT 26,000 Redmi 10 Pro mobile phone.
Afterward, Nobel allegedly confined the student in his house, raped her, and recorded the rape on his mobile phone.
He allegedly threatened to disseminate the video on social media if she did not comply with his wishes, which prevented the victim from confiding in anyone due to fear.
The complaint further states that Nobel, while intoxicated, would assault the plaintiff on various dates and times.
With the help of 2-3 other unknown accomplices, Nobel allegedly tortured and confined the victim in a room.
When a video of such an incident circulated on social media, the plaintiff's parents recognized her. They then called the national emergency service 999, leading to Nobel's arrest and the victim's rescue on May 19 at 9:30 PM.
Following these events, a case of abduction and rape was filed against Nobel at Demra Police Station.
