At least 25 people were killed, and many others severely injured, in a tanker truck explosion in Haiti, with several victims suffering serious burns, according to reports from Reuters and Al Jazeera.

The explosion occurred on Saturday near the coastal town of Nipes, in Haiti's southern peninsula. Local media reported that the incident took place around 7 a.m. and resulted in significant casualties.

Radio RFM confirmed that 25 people had lost their lives in the explosion. Haitian Prime Minister Gary Connell visited the site and later described the scene as "horrific" in a statement.

Authorities initially reported that 16 bodies were completely burned in the explosion, while 40 others were rushed to local hospitals with severe burn injuries. Emmanuel Pierre, Haiti's national head of civil protection, informed AFP that those in critical condition would be transferred to regional hospitals for further treatment.
