Two people were killed in a mid-air collision between two small aircraft near an airport in Arizona, USA, local police confirmed. The incident was reported by the BBC.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the collision involved a Cessna 172-S and a Lancair 360 MK 2, both single-engine aircraft. Each plane had two passengers on board at the time of the crash.
In a statement on social media platform X, the NTSB said the planes collided over Runway 12 at Marana Regional Airport. While the Cessna 172-S managed to land safely, the Lancair 360 MK 2 crashed near Runway 3 and caught fire upon impact. Authorities have yet to release details about the victims.
This tragedy follows a series of recent aviation accidents. Last month, a military helicopter collided with an American Airlines passenger jet in Washington, D.C., killing 64 passengers and three crew members.
In the same week, a small medical transport plane crashed into several buildings in Philadelphia, resulting in the deaths of six people on board and one person on the ground.
Most recently, on Monday, a Delta Airlines flight in Toronto, Canada, caught fire on the runway and skidded off before overturning. Fortunately, all 80 passengers survived.
