At least 93 more Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the besieged Gaza Strip in a single day, with over 250 more injured. This brings the total death toll in the enclave to over 53,650.
Adding to the escalating tensions, there are allegations that Israeli forces fired upon foreign diplomats visiting the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. Al Jazeera reported this information on Thursday (May 22).
According to Al Jazeera, medical sources confirmed at least 93 fatalities from Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip since Wednesday morning. The reported shooting by Israeli forces at foreign diplomats visiting the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday is drawing increasing international condemnation.
Separately, Anadolu news agency reported that the Palestinian Health Ministry announced on Wednesday that the death toll from ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has risen to at least 53,655. In the past 24 hours alone, 82 people were killed and 262 injured in Israeli attacks. The total number of injured since the war began now stands at 121,950.
The ministry noted that many people remain trapped under rubble and on the streets, with rescue teams unable to reach them, suggesting the actual number of casualties could be higher.
Despite a ceasefire agreement with Hamas taking effect in January, Israel resumed a full-scale assault on Gaza in March after the agreement collapsed. In recent days, Israel has expanded its ground operations and intensified its bombing campaign.
It's worth noting that in November of last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his then-defense minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Furthermore, a case categorizing Israel's actions in Gaza as "genocide" is currently before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
