In response to Israeli military strikes, Iran has closed its airspace indefinitely for security reasons. On Friday (June 13), Iran's state news agency IRNA announced in a statement, "The country's airspace will remain closed until further notice."
Earlier, all flights at Tehran's main airport, Imam Khomeini International Airport, were suspended, although no direct damage has been reported there yet.
Analysts say this airspace closure could significantly impact international flight traffic, especially those flights between Europe and Asia that use Iranian airspace. As tensions escalate, the risks and commercial disruptions in air travel are also increasing.
Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East have once again reached an all-time high following Israel's attack on Iran. Reports of massive explosions have come from the northeast of Iran's capital, Tehran. Witnesses stated that several installations, including residential buildings, were damaged in the attack.
The Israeli military has confirmed that they struck Iran in a pre-planned military operation named 'Operation Rising Lion.' According to The Times of Israel, this attack directly targeted Iran's military and nuclear facilities.
An Israeli military spokesperson stated, "This attack was conducted based on high-quality intelligence, and its primary objective was to destroy Iran's nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and military capabilities. This operation, involving more than two dozen jet aircraft, was meticulously planned and precise."
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared in a statement, "The main objective of this attack is to neutralize Iran's nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and military capabilities. This operation will continue for as long as necessary until we complete the mission."
Reports indicate that Hossein Salami, the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in this attack by Israeli forces. Israeli security sources claim there is a "growing possibility" that senior Iranian nuclear scientists and military officials were killed in tonight's attack.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reports that several civilians, including children, were killed in Israeli attacks on residential buildings in Tehran. The state news agency IRNA stated, "Several people, including women and children, have been killed in a residential complex in Tehran."
