A massive boiler explosion at a thermal power plant in the Sakti district of Chhattisgarh has left 11 employees dead and 22 others injured.

The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday (April 14). According to a report by The Economic Times, the power plant is located in the Singhitarai region of Sakti and is owned by the Vedanta Group.

The 1,200 MW capacity plant had only recently commenced operations in 2025.

Local administration and police teams arrived at the scene shortly after the blast to begin rescue operations.

Casualty Details:
Fatalities: Four employees died instantly at the scene, while seven others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Injuries: 22 employees are currently hospitalized and receiving medical care.

Sakti District Superintendent of Police, Prafulla Thakur, confirmed the death toll late Tuesday night.

Accountability and Response
The Vedanta Group issued a statement clarifying that they do not directly operate the plant's boiler unit. According to the company, NTPC GE Power Services Limited (NGSL) was responsible for the operation and maintenance of the specific unit where the explosion occurred.

However, Vedanta emphasized that their immediate priority is supporting the victims. "At this moment, our highest priority is to provide assistance to the families of the deceased and ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured," the statement read.

Government Reaction
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the explosion as "extremely tragic." In a formal statement, he assured that the government stands by the grieving families.

He further announced that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blast, promising strict action against those found responsible for the tragedy.
