Following reports of Indian missile strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Azad Kashmir, which Pakistan claims killed 31 people, Islamabad has authorized its military to retaliate.
Pakistan has stated that India "will pay a price" for the attacks. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump has called for an end to the conflict, stating, "I know both countries very well. I want them to stop."
This information was reported by the British news outlet BBC on Thursday, May 8th.
The BBC reports that President Trump made brief comments regarding the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office at the White House, he said, "I know both countries very well. I want them to work it out. I want them to stop."
Trump added, "If I can help in any way, I will certainly be there."
The comments follow Indian missile strikes on several locations in Pakistan, including Azad Kashmir. The overnight attacks reportedly targeted nine locations, resulting in the death toll rising to 31, according to Pakistani sources cited in the initial report. However, subsequent reports indicate varying casualty figures.
Earlier, President Trump reportedly described India's missile strikes in various parts of Pakistan as "shameful" and expressed hope that the conflict between the nuclear-armed nations would end "very quickly."
