A local court on Tuesday ordered Maksuda Islam, the first wife of Satkhira-4 constituency Member of Parliament Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, to be remanded in judicial custody regarding a case alleging her abetment in the suicide of his second wife, Mariam Khatun.  Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain issued the directive after law enforcement personnel presented Maksuda in court upon the conclusion of her one-day police remand, requesting her continued detention until the investigation concludes.  The court had granted a one-day remand for Maksuda and a four-day remand for Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam on September 21. Law enforcement recovered Mariam's body hanging from a ceiling fan inside Flat 203, situated on the third floor of Building 5 at NAM Bhaban, on the evening of September 20, leading to the immediate detention of the Satkhira-4 lawmaker and his first wife.  Following the incident, Mariam's father, SM Masum Billah, lodged a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the morning of September 21, naming Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Maksuda Islam, and Mariam's maternal uncle Obaidur Rahman as accused parties for allegedly abetting the suicide.

A local court on Tuesday issued a travel restriction prohibiting four individuals, including former Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasneem and her husband Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, from exiting the country amid ongoing corruption inquiries. 

A Dhaka metropolitan court has granted a four-day remand for Satkhira-4 Member of Parliament Gazi Mohammad Nazrul Islam and a one-day remand for his first wife, Maksuda Islam, following a suicide abetment case filed over the death of the lawmaker's second wife, Mariam Khatun.

A Dhaka court on Sunday rescheduled December 10 for submission of the investigation report in an Anti-Corruption Commission case implicating 17 individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over alleged irregularities, abuse of authority, and a BDT 309 crore state exchequer loss linked to the Meghna-Gomti Bridge toll collection contract.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought information on the domestic and overseas assets, bank accounts and financial transactions of former adviser to the interim government Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan and his wife, Ayesha Akter Panna.
