Mid-day meal is to return ‌in primary schools

The government is going to introduce mid-day meal again after two years to reduce the dropout rate of students from the education system. This time, the school feeding program is going to be launched in 150 upazila primary schools. According to multiple sources in the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, there are plans to launch the project from the beginning of August.

According to the development project proposal of the ministry, the mid-day meals at primary schools will be implemented in 150 upazilas with the view to ramping up school attendance as well as bringing down the dropout rate.

Meanwhile, Farid Ahmed, secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said that the government will not only provide fortified biscuits but also seasonal fruits, bananas, eggs and bread in the new program starting at the end of this year. In addition, another parallel school feeding program will be launched for about 220,000 students of primary schools in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban districts in July.
