At least 20 lakh people in 15 districts of the country have marooned. Houses, roads, markets in the flood-affected areas have been submerged. Educational institutions have also been closed in several districts. In this situation, the flood situation is expected to be prolonged.
Sardar Uday Raihan, executive engineer of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, told the media that there is a risk of another monsoon flood next month (August). However, nothing can be said clearly right now.
According to the forecast of the Met Office, the country there is a more possibility of rainfall than normal this month.
In this situation, heavy monsoon rains may cause floods again, said Sardar Uday Raihan. 'The rainy season has just started. The flooding is already underway. La Niña is also likely to be active. So, there is a risk of another flood in August.
La Niña causes colder and more rain than usual. Basically, it means the large-scale cooling of ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean, together with changes in the tropical atmospheric circulation, namely winds, pressure and rainfall.
